Back to tent life: Adnan's fight for shelter

06/02/2025

Adnan's life has been a constant battle for survival. After losing his home and business in the war, he and his family thought they had finally found some stability when they rented an apartment. Though it was expensive and in poor condition—missing windows, doors, and essential amenities—it was still a roof over their heads, shielding them from the harsh realities of life in a tent.

A temporary home turned nightmare

But their relief was short-lived. Less than two weeks after moving in, the landlord began demanding more money, driven by greed rather than compassion. With donations slowing down and no steady income, Adnan simply could not afford to pay more. His hopes of providing his family with a secure home quickly crumbled, and they were left with no choice but to leave. Two days ago, the landlord gave them 12 hours to vacate the apartment. Once again, they found themselves displaced, forced to return to the very tents they had struggled to escape.

A determined plan to rebuild

Determined not to give up, Adnan came up with a plan. Instead of relying on landlords or unstable temporary housing, he decided to build a modest two-room "apartment" next to the ruins of his destroyed home. Using two large tents as the foundation, he plans to reinforce them with clay, creating a more stable and weather-resistant shelter that can withstand wind and rain. It is far from ideal, but in these desperate times, it is the best option he has.

The challenges of starting over

But this, too, comes with challenges. Building materials and equipment are costly, and Adnan's resources are already stretched thin. Since the war began, he has only had two sets of clothes, and he struggles to afford even one proper meal a day. His dream is simple - not a luxurious home, but a safe space where his family can sleep without fearing the cold, wind, and rain. "I am living very difficult days", says Adnan with resignation, "everything is worse than before. I want clothes and some supplies".

How you can help

Adnan needs our help. Every donation, no matter the size, can make a difference. Your support can help him buy the materials he needs to build a stronger shelter, provide him with warm clothing, and ensure he does not have to go hungry. If you want to make an impact in someone's life, now is the time. Today is Adnan's birthday but instead of celebrating he is out in the cold wind and rain trying to secure a shelter for his parents and his wife.

URGENT APPEAL: Adnan needs €500-600 to buy a second tent, clay, and other building materials. He will use the stones from his bombed home together with clay to build a shelter that can protect them from extreme winds and cold. For now he spends his days collecting and carrying stones so that they are ready when he gets the other building materials. He also needs warm clothes, it is currently very cold in Gaza. Let's stand with Adnan in his fight for dignity and survival. Click here to donate. Thank you for your kindness. Together we are powerful.
