Bringing hope through education: Farah's Challenge Classes
With 95 percent of all school buildings having been destroyed or damaged, continuing education in Gaza is a major challenge. In central Gaza, where challenges are a daily reality, one woman is making a difference through education. Farah has dedicated herself to providing children with the learning opportunities they deserve. What started as a small initiative with just a handful of students has now grown significantly, with more children eager to join her unique program, the "Challenge Classes".
The growth of Challenge Classes
The journey began months ago with a single small classroom. Over time, word spread among the children, and the number of eager students increased. The Challenge Classes have become a special place, where students not only learn but also share their excitement with others. Many more children wish to join, but due to space constraints, Farah is unable to accommodate all of them. However, she remains hopeful that she will be able to establish another classroom soon to welcome more students into this inspiring initiative.
Farah, an English specialist, initially started by teaching English lessons. However, the students' enthusiasm for learning pushed her to expand the curriculum, introducing Arabic and Math as well. Their eagerness to stay longer and learn more proves the impact of her efforts. To ensure every child gets a chance to learn, she dedicates herself tirelessly, working seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., organising students into groups and scheduling classes throughout the day.
Creating a supportive environment
Beyond academics, Farah strives to provide a sense of joy and normalcy for the children. She organises weekly initiatives such as venting sessions, drawing activities, singing, and other creative outlets that allow the children to express themselves and momentarily escape the difficulties they face in their daily lives. These activities are more than just entertainment; they are a source of emotional relief and empowerment for the young minds.

Her dedication has not gone unnoticed. Visitors who come to see the classes consistently praise the positive energy that radiates within the space. They recognise the profound difference Farah is making in the lives of these children, creating an environment that fosters hope, learning, and resilience. Despite the hardships, she continues to push forward, determined to offer education and emotional support to as many children as possible.
